Bellydancing on Wounds

Review by gfn X

The short:

A collection of six poems expressing the lived experiences of the Palestinian people by Palestinian Writer + Poet Mohammed El-Kurd and Palestinian Oud player & Producer Clarissa Bitar.

The long:

Both Palestinian artists cultitvated their creative talents and merged their skills to publish an album that exemplifies the profound experience of living in occupied Palestine. The narratives in the track strike a chord in all and push listeners to lean in and hear the literary messages of the poet El-Kurd. This album provides listeners with rhythm and music that makes you want to sway your hips while constructed and moving poems initiate tears.

To listen or not to listen:

Absolutely listen! Bellydancing on Wounds is the poetry album your subconscious has always needed to hear. Listen to mourn, listen to heal-- hear the beautifully composed sounds of music in the background as El-Kurd speaks truth through vulnerability. This album is powerful and addresses the intersectionality of war crimes and the experiences of the oppressed.
