IRAQ
The Republic of Iraq sits between the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers on the land previously known as Mesopotamia. The Mesopotamian region witnessed the world’s earliest recorded civilizations, including the Sumers, Akkads, Babylonians, and Assyrians. Today, Iraq is home to approximately 40 million people. It is one of the most youthful countries, with over 60% of the population under the age of 25. The country consists of 18 governorates divided between the central Iraqi government and the Kurdistan region, including Dohuk, Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Halabja. Iraq is home to many diverse and unique ethnic groups and minorities as well as several languages.
