Issam Cherat

Issam Cherrat is a Chevening scholar holding a Master’s degree in International Politics and Security Studies from the Bradford University and a Certificate in Peace from the Hiroshima University, Japan.

Issam has more than 8 years of experience in governance programming in Morocco. He has worked extensively to support a range of democratic institutions to become more capable, accountable, and inclusive—including political parties, regional councils in five regions in Morocco, regional consultative instances, civil society organizations, and the media in addition to several municipalities and civil society organizations in Libya. Issam provides technical leadership and oversight on International-funded projects in conflict, stability, and security specifically in the northern region Tangier- Tetouane- Al-Hoceima (TTaH), and Morocco in general, and advises international NGOs and Embassies in applying a political economy and conflict-sensitive lens to project design and implementation.

Issam brings prior research and policy making experience from previous roles in international organizations such National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, Internews, DAI-Global, and Action-Aid Denmark. He currently works as executive director of CHIFAE- a prominent Moroccan based NGO- operating in northern Morocco with a focus on youth economic integration, education and community development.
